High Profile Cases

Over the past 25 years, Mr. Bancroft has been involved in a number of significant cases that have created law in various legal areas including a number of high profile products liability cases,

  • Ford Motor Company v. Bartholomew, 224 Va. 421 (1982);
  • Reliance Insurance Company v. J.W. Burris, Inc. , 247 Va. 418 (1994).

Mr. Bancroft has also litigated a number of significant premises liability cases including

  • Jane Doe v. Spotsylvania Mall Company, 1998 U.S. App. LEXIS 7806 (4th Cir. 1998);
  • Kaney O'Neill v. Windshire Copeland & Associates, et al., 372 F.3d 281 (2004).

In the area of construction, Mr. Bancroft successfully litigated one of the first "synthetic stucco" cases filed in Virginia and had the case affirmed by the Virginia Supreme Court.

  • Helen Parker Smith v. West Homes, et al., 262 Va. 432 (2001).

Mr. Bancroft successfully represented Susan Cummings in the wrongful death case filed against her arising out of her nationally publicized murder trial. In the spring 2004, Mr. Bancroft successfully represented the beneficiaries in a wrongful death medical malpractice trial and received a substantial verdict in favor of the beneficiaries which received state and national attention.
